Why It's Important To Get Your Pap Smear

I recently found out that a girl I went to high school with and played on the tennis team is in the last stages of cervical cancer.  She is only 31.  She did not respond to multiple treatments and is now in hospice in her home.

Her husband recently went on tv in their home state of California to talk about a foundation they started to make women aware of cervical cancer, one of the least thought about cancers in the population.

It is often very treatable, but you must catch it early and the way to do that is to go in for your yearly exam. I know, you don't want to go because you hate going and being in that position and it's uncomfortable and embarrassing and all that jazz.  But please, just do it.  Bite the bullet, make the appointment, and go.

Here is a link to the news interview with her husband, at the end is the foundation information if you would like to contribute or follow Tracy's Caring Bridge page.

  1. I had cervical cancer, I got very lucky. You're right, early detection is key.

    1. I am so glad that you were able to catch it early. It's my understanding that Tracy didn't go in to get regular check ups, and unfortunately, by the time they caught the cancer she was already in stage 3 and it was connected to her bladder so they couldn't just give her a hysterectomy. Her story is so tragic, and definitely gave me a kick in the pants. I haven't gone back in myself since Truitt was born 2 years ago, but I have already made my appointment.
